Confirmation: Friday 8th November 2019 at 7:00pm
The sacrament of Confirmation will be held at St James Forest Lodge.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is your child’s further commitment to their Baptism, when they receive the blessings and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Most Reverend Terry Brady will be conferring the Sacrament of Confirmation at St James Catholic Church, Forest Lodge on Friday 8th November 2019 at 7:00pm.

The preparation for this Sacrament, is done as a communal effort between the family, parish and school. The preparation dates are to be confirmed but will begin on with a Commitment Mass and information session, commencing at the 9:30am Sunday Mass. Attendance at this mass and information session is compulsory for all children making the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The cost of the Confirmation booklets, sacrament pin, certificate and reflection day meal is $25, which is payable to the St James Catholic Primary School Office.

As the primary educators of the faith, parents are involved in preparing their child to receive the sacrament by working through the activity book and discussing the sacraments at home. This year, the activity booklets will be completed by the candidate and their family at home and reviewed and reflected upon at the Retreat day. (TBA)

Preparation Activity Book
Your child will receive an activity book to help them prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This book contains four sessions that each child must complete.

  1. Jesus promises the Holy Spirit
  2. Pentecost – The Holy Spirit comes
  3. The work of the Holy Spirit – Gifts and Fruits
  4. Celebrating Confirmation

It is the expectation that parents and carers will complete each of the sections of this booklet with their child. The completed booklet will need to be brought to the Retreat Day.

Confirmation Passport
Your child will be given a Confirmation Passport. Attendance at Mass is an important part of preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Fr Dom would like you and your family to attend Mass at least 5 times during the preparation process with the hope that you will continue to receive the nourishment of the Eucharist in Mass after this Sacrament. When you attend Mass, your Children’s Missal will help you to follow the parts of the Mass and gain a greater understanding of its four parts – the Introductory Rite, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist and the Concluding Rites. After each Mass, Fr Dom will wait at the front of the Church, where you will receive an official parish stamp in your Confirmation Passport marking your attendance. If you wish to participate in the Mass in any other special way, please speak to Fr Dom in the morning or the week prior.

Confirmation Retreat Day
The Retreat Day will begin with Mass at 9:30am. The candidates and their families will participate in a range of activities such as reviewing the content of the activity booklet, sharing their Confirmation Saint project, preparing a special gift with families and a rehearsal. It is expected that the day will conclude at approximately 12:30pm with lunch. Parents and carers are expected to remain with their child during this day.

Suggested attire for Confirmation
The suggested attire for Confirmation is smart casual to formal.
A dress or other suitable formal clothing of any appropriate colour.
